Gaelic Scottish (thistle) Motto: “NEMO ME IMPONE LACESSIT ”
During the reign of King James III, the Royal Mint was ordered to strike the Scottish Thistle on all Scottish silver coins. The Scottish poet, William Dunbar, coined the marriage of King James V of Scotland to Princess Margaret of England in 1503 as “The marriage of the Thistle and the Rose;” The Rose being the national flower of England. In 1540 The Order Of The Thistle was founded to recognize Scottish citizens for outstanding service to the country.
For these reasons the Scottish Thistle became recognized as the national emblem by Royal Decree. The Crown over the Heart and Thistles in this beautiful pendant bring recognition for the love between the people and Scotland.
What a great gift for yourself or for that special person who loves Scotland, its culture and history.
