The lion is a solar animal invested with divine qualities; symbol of Royal power, leadership and dominion, military victory, bravery, vigilance and fortitude. It is the Royal emblem of England and Scotland and of British imperial power in the 19th century. In China and Japan the lion is protective. The lion is looked upon as the king of beasts and is often found in both horse brass and heraldic design. They are usually found in one of two positions: passant (walking…stalking) or rampant (rearing on his hind legs..ready to do battle). It is usually facing to the left, suggesting the aggressive/intimidating side of ones ran in society, but may be facing to the right as the protector of the people. Its popularity is no doubt due to the fact that it has been the choice of monarchs since appearing on the royal arms from the reign of William 1 (1066-1087) to the present.
HORSE BRASS: LION COLLECTION: Lion In Surround.
Cast using a pure first-run ingot brass mix rich in copper for beauty and value. Hand filed and polished to remove any rough edges and to bring out the beauty of quality brass. UNLIKE recycled brass preferred by many foundries due to its lower cost, ingot brass spreads more evenly when poured into molds and is without impurities. Higher copper content raises the cost due to the steady increase of copper on the world market, but requires less tin and zinc, resulting in a much higher qualty brass and lasting value for the money. All of our brassware is collector quality.
