“LET THEE AND ME MOST HAPPY BE.”
Traditionally, a “Luckenbooth” piece of jewelry is given by the “groom-to-be” to his “wife-to-be” as a betrothal or wedding gift to be worn on their wedding day. After the ceremony, their two hearts have become one. The crown reminds us of the Luckenbooth being given to Mary Queen of Scotland by the Dauphin of France before their marriage, which may be the purpose of the Crown resting on top of the two hearts; or it may represent the love, devotion and loyalty shared between a husband and wife, groom and bride. The thistle makes it uniquely Scottish and may represent an unending love one has for Scotland, its culture and history. It is also exchanged between friends.
Much like the Irish Claddagh, a piece of Luckenbooth jewelry will be a most cherished gift for today and heirloom for tomorrow, to be passed down to the first daughter to marry.
