The Scottish shilling was first minted during the reign of King Henry V11 and became known as a “testoon”. During the mid 16th century the name was changed to shilling, from “Old English scilling”. From 1503 to 1947, it was made in silver with a value set as the value of a cow or sheep. It was also called a “bob.”
