All of our pre-decimal coins and uncirculated postage stamps are authentic, original, and minted minted by the Royal Mint of great Britain.

The Scottish shilling was first minted during the reign of Henry V11 and known as a testoon.  During the mid 16th century the name was changed to shilling, Old English scilling. From 1503 to 1947, it was made from silver with a value set as the value of a cow or sheep.  We also call it a “bob;” a ten shilling note becomes known as either a ten shilling note or a ten bob note.
