SALMON FLY COLLECTION: Durham Ranger

$25.95

Featured in a special program on BBC and Border T.V. when Classic Flies of Langholm, Scotland, first introduced this series of Vicorian salmon flies for art galleries and fly-fishing museums. The purpose was to preserve these true classics before it was too late…so that future generations could appreciate the beauty of the past. Each hook is cut and shaped by hand; the feathers (“married” before being tied) are from birds that are now either extinct or placed on the endangered species list. They are no longer being produced with authentic materials and once our limited inventory is depleted, they will no longer be available on the market. A true work of art by master fly tiers in a small studio in the heat of Scotlands salmon fishing country. The hook is 2.00″ long and the custom made (in Edinburough) antiqued wooden frame measures 7.50″ by 7.50.”

Description

Featured in a special program on BBC and Border T.V. when first introduced by Classic Flies of Langholm,Scotland. Each is of true collector/gallery quality, with hooks hand-cut and hand-shaped by master Scottish craftsmen. All feathers are from birds now either extinct or on the endangered species list were “married” before being tied, making the finished product an exact duplicate (on a larger scale) of the originals tied over 100 years ago. Victorian manuals were used in their creation. The purpose of this series was to preserve these true classics before it became illegal to use the feathers and before the special skills needed to tie them became lost in the mass produced market of today. They can no longer be produced so when our limited inventory is depleted they will no longer be available to those who love fly fishing and/or true art form. The hook measures 2.00″ in length and the custom made wooden frame (made in Edinburough for Classic Flies) measures 7.50″ by 7.50.” The back is finished in green felt.
