Salmon Fly: Mar Lodge

$25.95

These framed salmon flies are reproductions of the old traditional patterns handed down through the ages by fishermen and gillies of the mighty Scottish salmon rivers. They were produced in the Classic Fly workshop which looks out onto one of the most famous salmon and sea-trout rivers, the Border Esk, in Langholm. Each fly is a masterpiece of the fly-tyers art, an art which is sadly declining yearly as the flies are replaced by the simpler, more modern patterns. As a result they are no longer being used for the purpose for which they were intended (that of catching fish) but are becoming increasingly popular as collectors items not only with salmon fishermen, but also by people with no knowledge of the art. Each hook, which measures 2.00″ in length, is hand cut and shaped and the feathers are “married” (a complicated process) before being tied. Each finished fly is placed in a custom made wooden frame, made in Edinburough, which measures 7.50″ by 7.50.”
