“If you pick a Scottish thistle, it will demand your respect” (in Latin: “NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT”) ( in Scottish “WHA DAUR MEDDLE WI ME”) and (in English “IF YOU DON’T WANT TO GET HURT DON’T MESS WITH ME. “).This little prickly purple flower that grows wild among the heather and scotch broom throughout the Highlands grew up to be adopted as the Emblem of Scotland during the rein of Alexander III (1249-1286), placed on silver coins by Royal decree in 1470 (King James III) and in 1540 the Order Of The Thistle was founded by King James V as the highest award for a citizen for their outstanding service to the country. The first to receive this honor was himself and twelve of his Knights. (he saw himself an imitation of Christ and his twelve Knights as the twelve Apostles). Today, Queen Elizabeth II of England considers the Order Of The Thistle second in importance to only the English Order Of The Garter. Quite an accomplishment for the little prickly weed.
You can now enjoy the recognition it brings by wearing this beautiful pendant with pride.
