The Scottish Thistle was honored by becoming the official symbol of Scotland during the reign of Alexander III (1249-1286)
In 1470, King James III honored the Scottish Thistle by ordering it officially “struck” on all silver coins minted and distributed throughout the country as legal tender by Royal Decree.
In 1503, the marriage between King James V of Scotland and Princess Margaret of England was coined “The Thistle and The Rose Wedding,” the Rose being the National Emblem of England.
The Scottish Thistle was once again honored when in 1540 when The Order Of The Thistle was founded to recognize those who have contributed to the advancement of Scotland
This beautiful pendant with its two Scottish thistles illustrates the continued bond between Scotland and its people.
